Do it Your Way

Entrepreneurs are trailblazers. They are driven, ‘glass is half full’ kind of people. I believe being an entrepreneur is more than just seeing potential in something. It’s about having the ambition to grow a project from the ground up going above and beyond to ensure ultimate success.

I have worked hard to be involved in a number of start-ups and different business ventures, which has seen me living all over the world. I believe having passion is key to my success.

I graduated university with a Bachelor of Arts and Secondary Teaching and quickly discovered this was not for me after working in the field. So I decided to create my own path and go my own way, which was following my passion for the tech space.

In 2007 I started my own web design company, Ruby6 and have never looked back. Late last year I also launched another exciting project ONDI.com and am looking forward to what 2015 holds.

For those wanting to start their own business, here are three key things I have learnt along the way:

  1. Be prepared to work hard before seeing results. Start-ups take time and determination. It is often a long wait between starting a company and seeing real success with a lot of hard work to get there. You need to be prepared to adapt your lifestyle for the hard yards ahead. Success does not happen over night.
  1. Set goals and prioritise them. Having goals gives your business direction and is key to growth. Ensuring they are achievable is crucial for staying motivated. Set deadlines for your goals so you keep accountable and complete them on time.
  1. Stand out of the crowd. It’s important to know who your competitors are and what they offering, so you can you bring something different to the table. To be successful and make an impact on your market you must stand out.
